It’s On! 2017 Keno City Music &Art Workshop for Adults
Come spend a week or two of peaceful, fun, resourceful, creative time in Keno City, Yukon. Why music and art? They both help to you discover new mediums of self-expression. Explore your hidden dimensions or transitions by spending time in this beautiful, eclectic, historical place with Artists in Residence who will be facilitating daily workshops in music and art. Art one day, Music the next for an entire week, July 24 – 30 and/or July 30 – Aug 5.
In partnership with Yukon Women in Music and Keno Club, ten professional Yukon artists will spend two weeks in Keno City creating new works as part of their Artist-in-Residence (AiR).
Make new friends or keep to yourself. Evening activities will bring people together with the community of Keno to enjoy artistic creations and musical performances of participants, Artists in Residence, and the general public including tourists and artists who might drop in. Evening campfires will be more intimate. Mature youth are welcome if accompanied by a guardian.
Pitch your tent or park your RV at the creek side Keno City Campground, or at the baseball field. The Silvermoon Bunkhouse (full kitchen available) or the Keno City Hotel have rooms to let as well (based on availability). Cook your own meals at your campsite or keep it simple and eat at the three yummy restaurants in Keno. Restaurants include Keno City Snack Bar, Keno City Hotel and the Sourdough Roadhouse and Grill.
This workshop is ideal for emerging artists, closet artists, absolute beginners, educators, and people who just want to give their creativity some focused time away from home, in a rustic retreat environment. Professionals are welcome create alongside everyone. Come make music and art in Keno City this summer!

12 hrs of workshops in music
12 hrs of workshops in visual arts
One Demo recording of your new song
6 evenings of music and art celebrations (your participation is encouraged)
2 hours of one-on-one mentorship/music lessons
6 art card prints of one of your own works of art (you can order more)

All participants are expected to be self-aware, to be respectful to others’ and the AiR’s space, and be independent and responsible for their own safety, shelter and meals. This is an opportunity for creative people to have sacred time and space in their lives, away from the fast lane. Absolute beginners as well as established artists of all genders are welcome.
Art supplies, paint, paper, pens, pencils, beads, needles, and thread will be provided, along with some low-end brushes for works created during the workshops.
Please bring: small TV table and chair, laptop, personal recording device (i.e. smartphone), your favourite paintbrushes, pens, HB pencils, utility knife, ruler, cutting board, and extra paint supplies if you intend on creating more paintings or works in your spare time. There will be a few supplies for sale in Keno at the Corp and Ryan building headquarters. Also bring your own guitar and any other musical instruments you intend to play during your time in Keno. If you do not have a guitar, we will have a couple extras on hand to loan.
