Keno City Music, Art and Literature Workshop 2020

Call to Artists - Keno City Music, Art and Literary Workshop 2020

Hello wonderful creative peers,

Submit proposals by May 1, 2020 via email to: kenocityworkshop@gmail.com

The Keno City Music and Art Workshop will be taking place from June 18 - June 30, 2020. While the historic Keno City is located about 6 hrs northeast of Whitehorse and about 3.5 southeast of Dawson City, Keno is a fragile and vulnerable community. We must be conscious of the impact of our intentions, presence and presentations this year in 2020.

For 2020, we are looking for professional musical, visual arts, literary and other disciplines in between to submit proposals to be Artists in Residence (AiR) in Keno during the virtual  Keno workshop. Proposals should outline several workshop ideas.

Submit proposals by May 1, 2020 via email to: kenocityworkshop@gmail.com

1hr or 2hr workshops you want to and have the skills to facilitate, so please list more than 2 options;
a list of creative mentorship skills you can share with others (four x 1 hr mentorship sessions to participants will be expected);
your plan for creation of new creative works.
plans for artistic presentations during the workshop (ie performance, slide show of creative works etc)

Deadline for submissions is May Day (1), 2020, by midnight Yukon time zone.

The intention of the 10 day workshop is for artists to create new works visibly, "plein d’air" and/on line, and to deliver workshops and mentorship to the general public including Keno residents, other artists, tourists, Yukon tourists, and anyone who happens to find themselves in or wanting to visit Keno during the keno Workshop.

Funding for the workshop is pending. We will know by the end of April 2020 what the financing for artists will be. If funding is successful, we willpay fees for workshop facilitation, mentorship hours, creation time and tech help to convey your skills via internet. There will be a budget for workshop supplies, it will be limited so keep this in mind when thinking about workshops you want to put on and what the participants will need to gather up.

Each artist in residence will deliver 2 to 3 x 2hr workshops during their residency. They can build on one another or be completely independent of one another. Workshops will be held from you home via internet.

Mentorship is also a key component of the Keno City Workshop. Each Artist is residence will need to be available to provide 4 hrs of mentorship during their residency to registered participants.

There will be several evening events in Keno via internet to showcase new art, perform music, readings, storytelling etc. These events are open to the public and artists should plan to participate in whatever way they feel comfortable. It is encouraged to push your envelope and explore other disciplines.

Participation and connecting with the other artists in residence and participants is key to a successful time. We will start a group on facebook so we all connect during the workshop.

Deadline for submissions is May 1, 2020, by midnight Yukon Time.
